Space Safety Standards
All spaces listed on COH are expected to meet basic safety standards. Hosts are required to ensure their spaces comply with local building codes and fire safety regulations, have working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers where applicable, maintain clear emergency exits, and provide adequate lighting in all accessible areas. COH reserves the right to remove listings that do not meet these requirements.
Guest Guidelines
As a guest, you play an important role in maintaining a safe environment:
- Review the space listing carefully, including all house rules, before booking
- Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and safety equipment upon arrival
- Report any safety concerns to the host immediately
- Treat the space and its contents with care and respect
- Do not exceed the maximum occupancy listed for the space
- Follow all posted rules and host instructions
Host Responsibilities
Hosts are responsible for providing a safe and clean environment:
- Maintain the space in good repair and working condition
- Provide accurate descriptions and photos of the space
- Disclose any known hazards or limitations
- Ensure all amenities listed are available and functional
- Carry appropriate liability insurance for commercial use
- Respond promptly to guest safety concerns
Emergency Procedures
In case of an emergency, always call your local emergency services first (911 in the United States). After ensuring your immediate safety, contact the host through the COH messaging system and notify COH support at safety@coh.com or through the in-app support feature. We have a dedicated safety team available 24/7 to assist with urgent situations. For non-emergency safety concerns, you can report issues through your booking details page.
Insurance and Protection
COH provides Host Protection Insurance that covers eligible hosts for up to $1,000,000 in liability per incident. This coverage supplements (but does not replace) a host's own insurance. Guests are encouraged to carry their own personal liability insurance. Details of coverage, exclusions, and claims procedures are available in our Host Protection Insurance documentation.
